New evidence links Los Angeles police to B.I.G.'s murder

While browsing the web for interesting stories, I came across one article on newly uncovered evidence pertaining to the 1997 unsolved death case of late rapper Christopher Wallace, better known as "The Notorious B.I.G." and "Biggie Smalls."

According to the article, which was posted earlier today, Feb. 18, at 12 p.m., the newly uncovered evidence may contain a proven link between Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers David Mack and Rafael Perez and former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight, who has long been suspected of organizing B.I.G.'s murder.

An unnamed inmate claims that Perez had told him that he had been working as a security officer at the Peterson Museum on the night B.I.G. was killed, and that he had called Mack to inform him that the rapper had left the party he had been at and was sitting inside a vehicle outside of the museum.

The inmate also reported that Perez had told him how him and Mack were on Death Row Records' payroll as security, "a scandal which, along with their involvement in an $800,000 cocaine heist, ended their careers in law enforcement" (Sharks).

The now-retired lead investigator in the B.I.G. murder case never presented the inmate's sworn statements as evidence, and B.I.G.'s family argues that "the evidence was suppressed to avoid costing the city millions for the LAPD's involvment in the murder, further creating tensions between the people of Los Angeles and its much-maligned police department" (Sharks).

This article really appealed to me because it is about a case that I believe has not been investigated to its full extent. I have watched many programs and documentaries on the "mysterious" murder of B.I.G. and find it hard to believe that such a famous case involving a celebrity has yet to be solved by now.

Before reading this article and learning that LAPD officers may have been involved in the murder, I had always wondered why law enforcement had not tried harder to get answers from some of the people who were affiliated with Biggie. The way the case was being dealt with overall seemed extremely sketchy.

However, this newly arisen evidence that may contain a proven link between LAPD officers and the crime would explain why such a deficient investigation of the crime had taken place, and hopefully this 14-year-old unsolved murder case will finally be solved.
